Spring and Sydney

2012 SPRING SUMMARY

What a crazy spring this has been. The plants are growing at a rapid rate. A perfect time to touch up the garden.

In September we sold out of most of our 200mm stock and have been running our nursery potting machine flat out to refill in time.

Watch out for plenty of new varieties in the coming weeks like. Michelia Figo, Syzygium Resillience, Viburnum Odoratissimum & so many more!

Here are some Callistemon Hannah Ray & Gardenia Florida in 200mm Pots that we sent in to go into a leading Australian chain store this Spring.

Callistemon is great underrated plant that requires little water once established. It has great bottlebrush flowers.

Gardenia is a garden classic that has a wonderful fragrant flower. This does require a cut back after flowering to get the plant to be stronger.

Always remember to use a general slow release fertiliser that will last around 12 months.

We Want To See Your Hedges!

Show us your favorite Buxus Hedge.

After selling over 500,000 buxus around Australia over the past 20 years. We would love to see how they have come out!

There are many ways to get your hedges looking brilliant, like regularly cutting and shaping. (The more you put in, the more you will get out) You also need to feed most plants generally one or two times if required per year using a slow release fertilizer.

Beware! So many people overlook these things and expect plants to just shape alone.

How Close Should We Plant for a Hedge?

One of the most common questions we get asked at our nursery is, "How Close Should We Plant for a Hedge?"

Well we will try explain this simply.

The faster the effect you want, the more plants you use.

Here are some rough numbers for 200mm Pots.

If you want a fast hedge, plant about 450mm apart.

If you have time to burn, then you can plant most 200mm Pots up to 800mm apart.

Again this is quite broad, but includes varieties like Buxus Japonica, Lillypilly, Murraya, Photinia's
